What is being proposed?

Council has developed a Footpath and Crossing Master Plan for community feedback. The plan shows new and proposed pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure on Adelaide Road (a State Government road under the care and control of the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure) and some surrounding council roads.

The proposed new infrastructure aims to provide better connectivity to shops, schools, businesses and homes along Adelaide Road and its surrounds, and make it safer for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.

    Crossings

Nine new pedestrian crossings are proposed:

    • Two roundabout refuges at the Hindmarsh Road / Adelaide Road roundabout

    • A pedestrian ramp near the intersection of Down Street and Rapid Drive

    • A pedestrian ramp on Rapid Drive near the roundabout of McCracken Drive and Rapid Drive

    • A pedestrian ramp at the intersection of McCracken Drive and Adelaide Road

    • A pedestrian refuge or pedestrian activated crossing on Adelaide Road opposite the Victor Harbor Lutheran Church

    • A pedestrian ramp at the entrance to Southern Cross Care on Adelaide Road

    • A pedestrian refuge on Adelaide Road (in front of ALDI)

    • A pedestrian refuge crossing or Emu Crossing on Agnes Gillespie Drive (between Encounter Lutheran School and ALDI)

    Footpaths

The plan proposes new footpaths on:

    • Hindmarsh Road (in front of the Caltex Service Station) to connect existing paths

    • Port Elliot Road (in front of the BP Service Station) to connect existing paths

    • Port Elliot Road (from Adelaide Road to Mentone Road)

    • McCracken Drive (from Adelaide Road to Rapid Drive)

    • Adelaide Road (from MacDonald Street to Agnes Gillespie Drive)

    Shared use path

The plan proposes a shared use path from the intersection of Down Street and Rapid Drive, continuing along Hindmarsh Road and Adelaide Road to Agnes Gillespie Drive.
