The City of Victor Harbor is seeking feedback on the proposed concept plan for Stage 5 of the Victor Harbor Mainstreet Precinct upgrade which incorporates the western section of Coral Street and Grosvenor Gardens.

About Stage 5 (Grosvenor Gardens and Coral Street)

Stage 5 of the Mainstreet Precinct Upgrade includes Grosvenor Gardens and the western section of Coral Street. Overall, the project seeks to implement streetscape improvements such as greening, pedestrian accessibility and safety, lighting and general amenity improvements.

The upgrade also provides an opportunity to explore and identify how Grosvenor Gardens can be better utilised by the local community for day to day usage and for small community events. Consideration is also being given to the future Arts and Culture Centre and how Grosvenor Gardens can be fully utilised with this new facility.

Key design objectives include:

  • Enhancing the pedestrian environment and design for improved access and quality
  • Increasing greening to the Precinct
  • Exploring shared use zone opportunities
  • Improving interfaces to heritage listed buildings
  • Improving traffic management and car parking opportunities to maximise pedestrian amenity
  • Offering appropriate space for small scale community events

Project background

The purpose of the Mainstreet Precinct Upgrade is to transform the heart of Victor Harbor’s Town Centre into a vibrant public space that celebrates the town’s character, encourages more activity and improves links with other areas of the town centre. The project is being undertaken over several years to contribute towards a sustainable future for the City.

Council completed Stage 1 in 2016 (the intersection of Ocean and Coral streets); Stage 2 in 2019 (extending from the northern entrance to Ocean Street to the end of Stage 1); and Stage 3 in 2020 (the eastern side of Coral Street to the foreshore). Construction for Stage 4 (southern end of Ocean Street) of the upgrade is expected to commence in May 2022.
