Consultation has concluded

The City of Victor Harbor adopted its new Public Consultation Policy in May 2019.

The new Public Consultation Policy will guide the Council’s approach to engagement and public consultation. The feedback we received will also assist us to design community consultation activities so that they better meet the needs of our community.

The consultation highlighted that there are a number of things we can do better when it comes to engaging with our community, particularly:

  • being more innovative in our approach to including the community in decision making
  • involving our community earlier in our planning of projects, programs and initiatives
  • using a more diverse range of tools to seek the community’s views rather than relying on the traditional survey
  • adopting a consistent approach to how we close the loop and communicate the outcomes of public consultation activities.

The next step in the process is to prepare a procedural document for Council staff to use when designing public consultation and community engagement activities to ensure a consistent, well-planned approach. This document will also encourage the use of a broader range of tools to hear our community’s views, with more face to face engagement opportunities a priority.

The City of Victor Harbor thanks everyone who provided input into the development of the new policy. Council will ask for community feedback on a range of issues in the coming year, and we encourage you continue to share your views with us and help us make Victor Harbor even better.
