Why is Council upgrading the Railway Terrace Precinct?

The project stems from the Victor Harbor Railway Precinct Plan (2008) which sets out a strategic direction for the development of our railway corridor. Two of seven stages within the plan are complete including the development of McLaren Lane and the Railway Turntable site on Eyre Terrace.

The upgrade of the Railway Terrace Precinct has been identified as the next priority stage given significant water pooling within the Precinct following high rainfall events. The main objective of this project is to provide a new stormwater system for the Precinct that will address this issue. It also presents an opportunity to enhance the public space.

What is included in the proposed design?

The design incorporates a new stormwater management system, street furniture, public art, heritage features, lighting, paving, landscaping, wayfinding signage, car parking, a flexible festival/event space, safety improvements and, enhanced connectivity for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists.

View the design concept for more detail.

How much will the upgrade cost?

The cost of the upgrade will depend on the final design and further investigations. Our current cost estimate is around $3.5 million.

It is intended to finalise a design, placing Council in the best position possible to leverage grant funding support and deliver the construction phase of the project.
