Consultation has now concluded. All feedback will be collated and provided to the Council.

The City of Victor Harbor is committed to celebrating and promoting Ramindjeri and Ngarrindjeri culture, as well as advancing genuine reconciliation with First Nations peoples.

To formalise this commitment, Council has developed its first Reconciliation Action Plan and is seeking community feedback on the draft Plan.

Based around the core pillars of relationships, respect and opportunities, the Plan will guide Council to sustainably and strategically take action towards reconciliation. The City of Victor Harbor’s vision for reconciliation is to foster an environment of inclusion and acceptance for all.

What does the draft Plan propose?

Through the 2022/23 Reconciliation Action Plan, Council aims to:

  • Celebrate and promote Ramindjeri and Ngarrindjeri culture
  • Develop processes for engaging and consulting with First Nations people
  • Investigate how reconciliation can be advanced in our organisation.

Some of the key actions detailed within the Plan include strengthening mutually beneficial relationships with First Nations stakeholders, increasing cultural learning opportunities, and exploring how First Nations employment outcomes can be improved in the workplace.

Council has worked closely with three cultural advisors to develop the Plan. This is an important first step towards building and developing relationships that are equitable, dignified and respectful.
