Consultation has concluded
The City of Victor Harbor is seeking public feedback on the main principles of a licence agreement to allow for the erection of temporary working compounds in the Esplanade and Causeway Boat Ramp car parks during the redevelopment phase of the Granite Island causeway.
License Proposal
To aid in the preparation of a detailed licence agreement with the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, the community is invited to comment on the following principles:
The construction compounds are on a temporary basis (the term of the redevelopment of the causeway)
The licence provides for exclusive use of the compound areas
The permitted use for the occupation of the area is as a work site in connection with the redevelopment of the causeway, including to store equipment and vehicles and to provide amenities for construction workers
The lessee being responsible for the maintenance of the premises.
This public consultation is only in relation to the establishment of two temporary compounds to be used as work sites during the redevelopment of the Granite Island Causeway. Any feedback regarding the causeway design and/or construction should be directed to the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport.

In 2019, the Premier announced a new causeway will be constructed adjoining the site of the existing causeway to Granite Island. The construction is expected to commence in February 2021 for completion around December 2021.
Proposal
The City of Victor Harbor is excited to be working together with the Minister on the project to deliver a revitalised causeway precinct.
To facilitate construction of the causeway, the contractor will erect working compounds near the construction site. The sites required are the causeway boat ramp car park and a portion of the Esplanade car park.
To formalise the temporary arrangement, Council will enter into a licence agreement with the Minister for the exclusive use of the compound areas.
Links with our strategic plan
Council recognises the importance of providing open spaces where people can gather and connect. This can be achieved by enhancing the vibrancy of the city’s foreshore and tourism areas. Increased tourism can also provide economic benefit to local businesses. Council strives to achieving these goals and to maintain good working relationships with other government departments through its strategic aspirations of:
Providing safe, welcoming and accessible places;
Establish and maintain strategic regional, state and national relationships; and
Investigate opportunities to enhance tourism services provided by the City of Victor Harbor.
