Consultation has concluded

The City of Victor Harbor is seeking public feedback on a proposal to renew the lease for the Victor Harbor Riding Club Inc., located at 51 Armstrong Road, Victor Harbor (commonly known as the Encounter Bay Recreation Ground).

The Victor Harbor Riding Club (VHRC) was first established in 1964 and moved to its current location within the Encounter Bay Recreation Ground in 1975.

The Riding Club teaches a variety of skills to riders of all ages in a family friendly environment. This includes skills in dressage, showing, jumping, horsemanship and caring for your horse. Members of the Victor Harbor Riding Club have achieved success at State, National and International levels.

Council recognises the importance of sporting clubs and the cultivation of a vibrant community culture. The lease proposal for the Victor Riding Club Inc. aligns with council’s strategic aspirations to provide a variety of open space and recreation opportunities and support the growth of local and regional sporting clubs and facilities.

Proposed Lease Renewal

The VHRC Leased Area Plan can be viewed in the 'Documents' section of this webpage. Public feedback is invited on the following principles;

  • An overall lease renewal term of 21 years.
  • The lease provides the lessee with exclusive use of the premises.
  • The annual rent being a peppercorn rental, consistent with that currently being paid by local sporting groups.
  • The permitted use includes horse riding and Club activities.
  • The lessee being responsible for the construction and ongoing maintenance of the premises.
